1. How does the free trial work?
CrashPlan offers a fully-functional 14-day free trial so you can test setup, management, and recovery of your endpoint, server, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data before paying a cent. You’ll enter your credit card during signup, but if you cancel during the trial period it will not be charged. At the end of your trial period, your credit card will automatically be charged. After signup, you’ll receive an email with everything you need to know to get started backing up your data and recovery of your data before paying a cent.
2. How does CrashPlan charge for data storage?
For endpoints, your subscription comes with unlimited data storage.
For both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, you get 50GB per user, pooled across your entire account.
For servers, you receive 250 GB of storage for each server purchased. This storage capacity is pooled across your account. If you require additional storage beyond what is included, you can purchase add-on storage in increments of 250 GB at $90/year.
For Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and servers, if you exceed your allotted pooled storage, you will automatically receive an additional 250 GB of pooled storage, prorated through the end of your current subscription term (charged at a rate of $7.50/month). The additional storage will renew with your main subscription at your next billing cycle. If your storage usage has dropped back within your base subscription entitlement by the time of renewal, the additional storage will not renew and you will not be charged for it.
3. How long are my deleted files retained?
For endpoints, your deleted files are retained for a maximum of 90 days. You can customize your deleted file retention policy if you prefer to retain them for a shorter period of time.
For Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, your deleted file retention is completely customizable.
For servers, your deleted file retention is completely customizable.
4. How many versions of my files are retained?
CrashPlan will retain as many versions of your files as you specify in your backup policies.
5. Where is my data stored?
Your data is backed up to CrashPlan’s proprietary data centers located in the United States. By operating our own data centers, we’re able to control every aspect of data security, redundancy, and efficiency without paying markups to public cloud providers. This allows us to pass the savings on to you. And because CrashPlan is completely cloud-based, you never have to worry about maintaining your own infrastructure.

6. How secure are my backups?
CrashPlan is committed to enterprise-grade security for all our backups: AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS encryption in transit, per-user encryption keys, and immutable backups that prevent tampering and the spread of malware. Optional two-factor authentication offers an additional layer of security. CrashPlan adheres to strict security guidelines, including SOC 1, SOC2, and ISO27001, and Star Level One.
